Work
Alongside writing, I build web systems. A master's in Web Business Technology from Kyoto, and before that several years of translation and community work in Rautahat — which is where a lot of आश्रय comes from.
Approach
I came to web development from business studies, not computer science, which turns out to be useful more often than not. It means I tend to ask what a system is for before asking how to build it.
Most of my working life has been spent between languages — Nepali, English, Japanese — and between the people who fund things and the people the funding is for. Translation teaches you that the hard part is rarely the words. It's working out what someone actually meant, then finding a way to say it that survives the crossing.

Carried messages between international sponsors and the local families they supported, which meant translating not only language but context, so that neither side misread the other.

Cross-cultural communication platform
A system for passing information between international donors and the local beneficiaries of their funding, built around the gaps that cause the most confusion in practice.
Financial literacy programme
Training material developed and delivered for rural households in Rautahat, covering saving, borrowing and the arithmetic of school fees.
Video and interview production
A YouTube channel of interviews and short documentary pieces, written, shot and edited independently.
